Founder & Son Speak at Oxford, Ohio

Jim Luce, OI Worldwide Founder & CEO traveled to speak to the Ohio Chapter of OI America at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Oxford, Ohio, in March 2008. With him was his adopted son, Mathew, for whom OI's cardinal rule - "Mathew's Rule" - is named: to care for children around the world in the same manner we would care for our own. John Lee, OI Worldwide Project Officer, also made the trip to Ohio and spoke to those assembled. John is now back in Sri Lanka.

Frank Jordan, Ph.D., introduced Jim Luce, OI Founder.
Frank has known Jim and his family since Jim's childhood.

Members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church listened to
Jim and John’s stories of building OI Worldwide.

Jim thanked members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
for their support of OI Haiti.

Members of the Ohio Chapter of OI America
met at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

Jim’s son Mathew was present to meet
three of Jim’s elementary school teachers.

Oxford, Ohio is the home to on of the Top Ten public schools, Miami University. Although Jim's family is from Boston, they moved to Ohio several years before he was born so that Jim’s father Stanford L. Luce, Sr., could teach French there. Jim’s mother, Frances D. Alleman-Luce, studied to be a child psychologist at Miami, and Jim’ step-mother, Louise Fiber Luce, was a professor of French focused on African literature until her retirement. Jim was baptized at Holy Trinity in 1960.

Dear Orphans International Supporter,

We would like to thank you for making our event at the Pink Elephant a success! Through your attendance and participation in the auction we were able to raise over $8,000 and an additional $1,800 in child sponsorships.

We would like to express our gratitude to John Broughton and Manhattan Promotions for doing a stellar job of promoting our event and Lisa Tai and Fongyen Lin for bringing many new "Meet-Up" members.

Many thanks to those whose donations made our event special including fashion designer Alexander Wang, Hartshorn Portraits, Lactalis USA Cheese, G-Spa Champagne Service and our founder, Jim Luce, for donating a painting from his private collection. Your support will enable us to continue providing housing, a quality education, access to medical care and the necessary support services to help our Haitian children who have lost their parent(s) and suffered through Hurricane Jeanne.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our corporate sponsor, Air France, for the donation of two tickets for our auction and especially to Jean-Jacques de Saint Andrieu, their Manager of Community Relations and a longtime supporter of Orphans International.

We would like to thank our Board of Directors for their continued support, especially Nancy Zhang and Alastair Bushby for their help coordinating a very successful auction.

Finally, we would like to honor our staff, interns and volunteers whose work "behind the scenes" made the night possible.

According to UNICEF the number of global orphans is estimated at 210 million. So, we look forward to your continued support. If you would like to learn more about our organization, find out about upcoming events, make a special contribution or learn of other ways that you can support our work please visit our website at www.oiww.org.

Warm regards,

Linda Stanley
